One of those days that makes you laugh... but not until the next day
5:30 - Sean wakes up, about 2 hours early for a non-work day, he's NOT happy - Mommy's not happy either...
7:00 - I decide only a Starbucks Chai is going to make this day better - Leave house in PJs, grab purse, kid
7:30 - Come home, starting to drizzle outside, key does not work in back door - Try for about 10 minutes. Try the side door - am able to get it open, but it is locked with a chain on the inside.
7:45 - Finally decide to call Stan - did not want to do this - Stan had been preparing the last several months (and all of the 4th of July weekend) for this big mediation. Left house in his best suit. The head of his company's legal department is in town from DC for this. VERY big day for Stan... does not need to deal with his pregnant wife and toddler begin locked out of the house. But I call and ask him to leave his house keys (he had more on his key ring) with the receptionist - tried to play it off like it was no big deal...
8:00 - Leave the house, during rush hour, in my pajamas and glasses, brushed teeth the extent of my grooming, a kid, and a purse - no diaper bag, no food save a couple graham crackers, just me, my kid and a chai
8:15 - Stopped by a cop warning me to get my front head-light fixed
8:45 - Finally arrive (in my pajamas) at Stan's downtown office. Proceed to get his keys and get out as quickly as I can and praise God that Stan and his legal team have already left for the mediation - I do not want to meet Clark Construction's Head Legal Counsel today.
9:15 - Get a call from Leah Flanagan on my way back home and decide to stop and meet baby Patrick. Hang out for awhile, our toddler's get a couple time-outs apiece, we hardly get to visit, head home a few hours later.... STARVING and ready for lunch (have only had a chai so far...)
12:00 - Get home. Stan's keys do not work either. I cry as my kid plays in the backyard... in the rain...
12:15 - I get Sean back into the car - for about the 8th time this morning and we head to Village Hall and visit the police department (still in my pajamas) -
12:30 - Head back home and wait in my front yard, under the umbrella with Sean, for the policeman to arrive.
12:45 - Policeman arrives - I tell him I'm locked out and he looks puzzled since I'm holding my keys... I have no proof on me that I live here - but I must look pathetic enough in my pajamas, pregnant, with a 2-year old - that he takes my keys and tries the doors. He can't get the back door open, which leaves me oddly relieved that a strong, non-arthritic policeman can't get the door open either - but he is able, however, to get my front door open and undo the chain link from the outside - while that's a little disconcerting - all I could think about at this point was food. (note to any potential criminal - we've fixed this issue with our front door...)
1:00 - Decided to employ the airplane philosophy of oxygen mask for mother first, then child - and directed Sean to his cars while I enhaled a plate of nachos - and then finally got Sean some lunch too.
Unfortunately the day did not get much better - Sean went down for a nap but woke up in a horrible mood - We got in the car, again, and went to grocery store - and by the time Stan got home that night, we were all totally beat - My RA was really starting to flare, Stan needed to run a couple late errands, and I was nervous about getting Sean to bed on my own - so we put Sean in his jammies, and we both hopped in the car with Stan and rode around with him during his errands and fell asleep in the car. What a day. On the bright side, Thursday was a much better day - lots of sunshine and Sean even asked me if he could go down for a nap - about an hour earlier than usual - and woke up 3 hours later quite happy and eager to take a quick trip to the zoo. Night and Day.
